The British Council has organised a series of Teacher Takeaway webinars for English teachers in cooperation with the Seoul National University of Education.
The third webinar of Season 2 was held on 24 November, and HyeJin Lee, Professor of Wonkwang University, offered her expertise and insights into leveraging human-centric AI for augmented capabilities, understanding the evolving role of educators in the AI era and future educational directions.

This session aims to present the application of generative AI and metaverse in English teacher training and delve into future educational prospects. The session will be structured around (1) future education and talent development in the new normal era, (2) instances of teacher training via generative AI and metaverse, and (3) introduction to high-utility English education edtech tools and High-touch High-tech education. This webinar is expected to offer insights into leveraging human-centric AI for augmented capabilities, understanding the evolving role of educators in the AI era, and future educational directions.
HyeJin Lee is a professor in the Department of English Education at Wonkwang University. She is highly interested in developing English teachers’ instructional skills using technology. Supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea, she developed the ONEPASS application tailored for the English Teacher Employment Test, incorporating neurocognitive processing techniques in 2020. Following the execution of the “Metaverse English education leading strategy” in 2022, she is now engaged in a research project for 2023 titled “Sustainable education reform strategies” that integrates GenAI. She currently serves as a principal researcher for the “High-tech glocal pre-service teacher training” project and manages the “Metaversity digital creative convergence META development programme.”
