The Verification service offered by the British Council in Korea will be no longer available from March 2025.

Please find the other alternatives which offer a more streamlined way to verify UK  education documents. Here’s how you can still access validation:

  • For Individuals: You can use the Apostille legalisation service or the electronic document provision service offered by UK education providers.
  • For Organisations: The HEDD (Higher Education Degree Datacheck) service (https://hedd.ac.uk) provides degree verification, and you can also enquire directly with the relevant UK institutions.

Please note:

  • Service applications will be accepted until 20 February 2025.
  • Document collection will be available until 28 March 2025.

Verifying documents from UK universities and educational bodies 

Employers and education institutions often ask people who studied in the UK for a letter or stamp that can verify their UK qualification or accreditation of institution.

※ The British Council in Korea is no longer receiving application for validation stamp for the purpose of Apostille legalisation from 1 April 2023. Please contact Apostille agencies if you need Apostille legalisation. 

Please click each item below and read the guidelines carefully before you apply for the service. The type of service that you would need can only be advised by the organisation/institute that you will be submitting the document to. Choosing the correct type of service is applicant’s responsibility.

UK qualification verification letter or stamp

You can apply for either : 

a. verification letter or
b. verification stamp.

a. Verification letter

The British Council can provide a letter confirming that your UK education qualification is genuine. We will check your qualification with the issuing authority for confirmation on their originality. The letter will be in both English and Korean, with a British Council stamp. Please note that the letter does not include your grades but ONLY specifies your name, major, qualification type, school, and awarding date.

b. Verification Stamp

We can stamp either the original document (on the reverse side) or a certified copy that we can provide.

UK institution verification letter

The British Council can provide a letter confirming whether your education institution is registered with the Ministry of Education in the UK. The letter will be both in Korean and English, with a British Council stamp. Please note that this letter does not certify one’s attendance at or graduation from the institution.

Verification letter for HRD Korea’s National Qualification Testing application

The British Council can provide a letter to HRD Korea, confirming that your UK education qualification is genuine. We will check your qualification with the issuing authority for confirmation on their originality. This letter should only be used for HRD Korea’s National Qualification Testing application.

The letter will be in both English and Korean, with a British Council stamp. Please note that the letter does not include your grades but ONLY specifies your name, major, qualification type, school, and awarding date.

※ If you need verification stamp on your transcripts, please request it on your online application. The stamp can be provided with an extra fee of 40,000KRW.

How can I apply?

  1. Apply by filling in the online form. 
  2. Make your payment, within 24 hours, to Citi Bank 0-015867-019 (British Council Korea). (For two days, this payment is refundable should you make a cancellation.)
    ※ For international wire transfer:

    * Swift Code: CITIKRSXXXX
  3. You will receive an email from us when we have verified your education document.
  4. Visit our office with your original education document.

※ It is the applicant’s responsibility to choose the correct type of service.
※ If you require verification on multiple degrees/qualifications, please apply each one separately. (e.g. if you need to get two degrees verified, apply twice.)
※ Please note that occasionally a UK institution does not respond and it is not possible to carry out this service.

How much is the fee?

  • UK qualification verification letter or stamp
    - 80,000 won for three copies of the letter or verification stamps
    - Additional fee of 40,000 won will be charged per extra school document (transcripts, school letter, etc.)
  • UK institution verification letter
    - 40,000 won for three copies of the letter
  • Verification letter for HRD Korea’s National Qualification Testing application
    - 80,000 won for three copies of the letter
    - 40,000 won extra fee for verification stamp on transcripts
  • Make your payment, within 24 hours after the application, to Citi Bank 0-015867-019 (British Council Korea). (For two days, this payment is refundable should you make a cancellation.)

※ Additional fee may be charged during the verification process with the UK institute/school.

How long does it take?

  • UK qualification verification letter or stamp, verification letter for HRD Korea’s National Qualification Testing application
    - Approximately ten working days, depending on the response time of the UK institution.
  • UK institution verification letter
    - Approximately three working days, depending on the response time of the UK institution.
